A “10,000 steps walk for health” campaign was launched by students of Government First Grade College in Kamalpur on Saturday, marking World Health Day with a strong message on fitness and healthy living.

The programme was organised under the guidance of college authorities and the National Service Scheme unit, following instructions from government education bodies. The initiative aimed to promote the importance of regular walking and physical activity among youth and the wider public.

College Principal Dr. Lakshmana Bhosle formally inaugurated the event. Speaking on the occasion, organisers highlighted that lifestyle diseases are increasing rapidly and simple habits like walking daily can play a major role in maintaining good health.

After the launch, students took part in a “Youth for Walk” procession starting from the college campus and moving through Kamalpur Bus Stand and Basaveshwar Circle before returning to the college. During the march, students raised slogans encouraging people to adopt walking as a daily habit and to stay physically active.

Faculty members, guest lecturers and administrative staff actively participated in the programme along with more than 150 students. The event saw enthusiastic involvement from teachers and coordinators who supported and guided the students throughout the campaign.

Organisers said the campaign was inspired by national and state-level health awareness initiatives and aimed to build long-term fitness habits among young people. They added that such activities help create awareness about preventive healthcare and reduce the risk of lifestyle-related illnesses.

The programme concluded successfully, with participants expressing confidence that the message of daily walking and fitness would reach the community and encourage healthier living practices.
