Model marriage campaign sets up reception committee

Puttur

A reception committee has been formed as part of the “Model Marriage” campaign aimed at creating public awareness against excessive spending in weddings. The campaign is being organised by the Karnataka Sunni Youth Association, and its concluding conference will be held on May 2 at Puttur Fort Grounds. The event is expected to be attended by Indian Grand Mufti Sultanul Ulama A.P. Ustad.

During a preparatory meeting, organisers announced the formation of a large local welcome committee to ensure smooth conduct of the programme. Yusuf Gausi Saja was elected as president of the committee, while Iqbal Bappalige was chosen as convener. Rafique Haji Maidanimule, Managing Director of Royal Group, was appointed treasurer.

Officials said a 313-member reception committee has been created along with an advisory panel consisting of religious scholars, community leaders and respected elders. The campaign aims to promote simple marriage practices and discourage unnecessary financial burden on families.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of SYS State President Bashir Saadi from Bengaluru. Vice President Syed Ilyas Thanal from Erumad offered prayers to begin the proceedings. The programme was inaugurated by Bengaluru District Secretary Anas Siddiqui. Several state and district leaders including KM Abubakar Siddique, Muhammad Ali Sakhafi and Mansoor Ali Kotegadde addressed the gathering.

Organisers said the campaign is focused on spreading awareness about simplicity in marriages and strengthening social responsibility within the community. The event concluded with formal thanks and support commitments from participants.
