Leopard killed after porcupine attack in forest

Chamarajanagar

A young leopard died after being attacked by a porcupine in Bommanahalli village of Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajanagar district. The incident highlights the rare but dangerous encounters between wild animals in forest areas.

The carcass of the one-to-two-year-old male leopard was found near a farm with several porcupine quills piercing its chest, ribs, and face. Forest officials believe the leopard had attempted to hunt the porcupine but was fatally injured during the struggle.

Bandipur Assistant Conservator of Forests Naveen Kumar said the body was discovered in the Kundakere forest area of Bandipur Tiger Reserve. A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and samples have been sent for analysis. The carcass will be disposed of as per forest department rules.

In a separate incident, motorists spotted a leopard crossing a road in Bandipur during the daytime. Officials have advised the public to avoid venturing near forest areas and ensure safety.
