NEW DELHI
India is officially on track to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad emerging as the central hub for the event’s centenary edition. Following a high-level inspection, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha confirmed that international delegates were “very happy” with the city’s rapid progress and infrastructure.
The delegation from Commonwealth Sport, including President Donald Rukare and CEO Katie Sadleir, completed a three-day tour of Gujarat, visiting venues in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, and Ekta Nagar. According to Usha, the team was particularly impressed by the “one-track” alignment between the central government, the Gujarat state leadership, and sports bodies like the SAI and IOA.
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya presented a futuristic vision for the Games, focusing on three core pillars:
- Athlete-Centric: Prioritizing world-class competition and welfare.
- Sustainable: Ensuring a long-term environmental and social impact.
- Tech-Enabled: Utilizing modern systems for efficient delivery.
With Ahmedabad’s strong connectivity and the government’s focus on grassroots legacy planning, the 2030 Games are being positioned as a landmark moment for Indian sports. “They were very happy and hope that it will be a very good centenary games,” Usha noted, signaling a confident start to India’s hosting journey.
