Stalin Surprises Chennai Metro Commuters with Ride

Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin surprised commuters on Friday by travelling in a metro train and interacting with passengers during his journey across the city.

Stalin boarded the metro at Chennai Central and travelled up to AG-DMS, where he spoke to passengers and sought feedback on the DMK government’s welfare schemes. His sudden visit created excitement, with many commuters approaching him for selfies and brief conversations.

During the journey, several women passengers appreciated the government’s initiatives, including financial support for higher education. They also welcomed the promise of an Rs 8,000 coupon scheme for homemakers if the DMK returns to power. Responding to the feedback, Stalin said the government continues to follow the welfare path set by former leaders C N Annadurai and M Karunanidhi.

He was accompanied by Thousand Lights constituency candidate N Ezhilan, who is contesting for re-election. The interaction gave Stalin an opportunity to directly hear public opinion on governance and ongoing schemes.

Later, in a post on social media platform X, Stalin described the metro ride as a journey filled with people’s affection and memories of the project’s early days. He recalled his role in securing financial support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister.

Stalin said the metro’s first phase, linking Wimco Nagar to the airport and Central to St Thomas Mount, has served millions. He noted Phase II work is advancing fast. The 116.1 km expansion will connect key areas like Madhavaram and Siruseri. The project cost was reduced to Rs 61,843 crore, and further expansion will improve city connectivity and growth.
