District in-charge Minister M.B. Patil has directed officials to ensure there is no negligence in managing drinking water during the summer season, warning that strict action will be taken against those who fail in their duties.
Chairing a review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday, the Minister said that although there is no major water crisis at present, areas like Indi and Chadachan may face shortages in the coming weeks. He instructed officials to take preventive steps at the Gram Panchayat level to avoid any emergency situation.
He emphasized that officers must stay alert, visit taluk headquarters regularly, and solve problems quickly. Alternative arrangements, such as identifying borewells and other water sources, should be made wherever required. Coordination among departments, including the Minor Irrigation Department, was also stressed to ensure smooth water supply over the next 20 days.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Anand K informed that sufficient water is available in Almatti and Narayanpur reservoirs, similar to last year. The Minister directed that the available water be used carefully to meet drinking needs until August. He added that 40 Multi-Village Scheme projects are currently functioning well in rural areas.
The Minister announced that 2.3 TMC of water will be released to fill tanks starting Saturday. He said proper monitoring is necessary to ensure water reaches even the last villages. The water must be used only for drinking purposes, with support from police and other departments.
Focusing on urban areas, the Minister suggested maintaining old borewells, cleaning wells, and using alternative sources like Bhutnal lake and Taj Bavadi.
He also directed officials to assess crop damage caused by recent hailstorms and provide compensation to affected farmers.
Highlighting the Jaladhare project, he said 81 percent of the work is complete and set a deadline of March 2027 for full completion. Regular reviews and better coordination were also instructed.
Public representatives and senior officials attended the meeting and assured full cooperation.
