Glenn Phillips says he has found a sense of belonging with Gujarat Titans, crediting the franchise’s environment for helping him settle and perform in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season.
The New Zealand all-rounder, currently in his second year with the Titans, described the team atmosphere as being similar to that of the New Zealand national cricket team, which he believes has been key to his comfort and adaptability during an extended stay in the subcontinent.
Phillips has spent several months in India and nearby regions, featuring in bilateral series, ICC tournaments, and now the IPL. He said the variety of formats and conditions has kept the game engaging while allowing him to grow as a player.
“It’s great to have a change of scene and different formats. That keeps things interesting,” Phillips said, adding that the Titans’ setup has made his transition seamless. “It’s probably the closest franchise environment I’ve experienced to the Black Caps.”
Having joined the Titans in 2025, Phillips’ previous campaign was cut short due to injury. This season, the 29-year-old is determined to make a stronger impact. Playing a flexible middle-order role, he emphasised the importance of adapting to match situations rather than focusing solely on personal milestones.
Phillips credited head coach Ashish Nehra and the support staff for providing clarity and confidence. “They make sure you feel comfortable in your game and give you everything you need to prepare,” he said, noting that his role varies depending on conditions — from aggressive finishing to stabilising innings on tougher pitches.
Beyond on-field responsibilities, Phillips highlighted the off-field camaraderie and family-oriented culture within the franchise as crucial factors. He noted that players and their families form a close-knit unit, fostering a supportive environment during the long tournament.
The Kiwi also spoke about the strong fan connection in Ahmedabad, recalling how he felt supported even during international fixtures. That bond, he said, motivates him to give his best for both the team and its supporters.
As the Titans continue their campaign, Phillips remains focused on contributing in every situation, confident that the team’s positive culture will drive success.
