Islamabad
The Pakistan government announced a sharp rise in fuel prices, with petrol up 43 per cent and high-speed diesel (HSD) rising 55 per cent. Petrol now costs PKR 458.41 per litre, up from PKR 321.17, while diesel has jumped to PKR 520.35 from PKR 335.86. Kerosene prices also increased to PKR 457.80 per litre. Officials said adjustments in petroleum levies aim to limit the impact on transportation. Petrol levies were raised, while diesel levies were reduced to zero. The government introduced targeted relief measures, including subsidies for two-wheeler users, small farmers, and diesel-dependent transport services. Trains and public service vehicles transporting food will also receive monthly support. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the “difficult and responsible” decisions were taken after consultations with national leadership to maintain fiscal discipline, protect economic stability, and direct subsidies to the most deserving groups. These moves come amid ongoing concerns over inflation and rising living costs across Pakistan.
