Tension rose in Shivamogga after the grave of a murdered boy, Sanket, was found damaged, drawing sharp reactions from local leaders and residents.
MLA S. N. Channabasappa visited the cemetery in Sulebai and inspected the site along with Sanket’s family. Sanket, a youth from Uragadur, was killed on February 23 when he reportedly went to settle a dispute between friends. Police said seven minors were involved in the murder and are currently in custody. The recent damage to his grave has raised fresh concerns about safety and law and order in the area.
Speaking to reporters, Channabasappa condemned the incident and demanded a thorough investigation. He urged authorities to identify those responsible and ensure strict action under the law.
The MLA also called for better security at burial grounds, including installation of CCTV cameras and construction of protective boundaries.
Sanket’s family expressed distress, saying the incident has deepened their grief and fear. They appealed for quick justice and protection. Channabasappa said he would raise the issue with concerned officials and seek necessary support measures. Local leaders, including BJP members, were present during the visit.
Authorities have begun inquiries into the vandalism and assured that efforts are underway to maintain peace and prevent further incidents in the district. Officials stated that additional police patrols may be deployed if required to reassure residents and avoid tension. Community members have also been urged to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation process as the case continues to develop further in coming days.
