Karachi’s oldest Hindu temple faces neglect

Islamabad

A leading minority rights group has called the decaying Ramchandra Mandir in Karachi a “national shame.” Once a symbol of harmony near Ratan Talao Street, the historic temple is now enclosed by cement walls and iron gates with Islamic inscriptions. The Voice of Pakistan Minority (VOPM) criticized authorities, including the Evacuee Trust Property Board and Ministry of Religious Affairs, for neglecting the site. VOPM said erasing the temple erases part of Pakistan’s plural heritage and urged immediate protection, warning that preserving such landmarks honors history, faith, and humanity rather than threatening it.
