Akka Mahadevi Jayanti celebrated with grandeur in Jevargi

The birth anniversary of Akka Mahadevi was celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion in Jevargi town through a grand women’s convention and cultural program. The event was jointly organized by the Akhila Bharata Sharana Sahitya Parishat, Taluk Sharana Sahitya Parishat, and Kadali Mahila Vedike, Basaveshwar Nagar. As part of the celebrations, a grand procession carrying the portrait of Akka Mahadevi was taken out from Sri Renukacharya Temple to the park on Shahapur Road. The procession witnessed participation from entrepreneurs, political leaders, various organizations representatives, women’s groups, bhajan teams, and traditional band troupes, adding vibrancy to the event.

The program was inaugurated in the divine presence of Dr. Siddarama Shivacharya of Vishwaradhya Tapovan Math, Shahapur, and Sri Siddalinga Mahaswamiji of Viraktamath, Nelogi. Several dignitaries, including Vijaykumar Patil Tegaltippi, Shambuling Desai, and Shanmukhappa Sahu Gogi, were present as chief guests. Presiding over the function, Kadali Vedike district president Dr. Shanta B. Ashtage highlighted the significance of the occasion. During the event, noted scholar and former minister Leeladevi R Prasad and Dr. Bhagyashree Sharanprakash Patil were honoured with the “Akka Award.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Leeladevi R Prasad described Akka Mahadevi as a courageous woman who fought against caste discrimination, superstition, and social evils through her vachanas. The event also featured cultural performances, special lectures, induction of new office-bearers, and felicitation of achievers in various fields with awards such as Adhyatma Jyoti, Jnana Jyoti, and Basava Jyoti.
