Intro: India’s rural housing scheme has completed 2.99 crore homes, utilizing AI and face-scanning technology to ensure transparency and efficiency.
NEW DELHI
The dream of owning a sturdy house has become a reality for nearly three crore rural families across India.
The government recently announced that out of the 4.15 crore homes planned under the rural housing scheme, 2.99 crore are already finished. This massive effort is part of a mission to build nearly five crore homes by 2029.
To make sure the money reaches the right people, the government has sent over ₹4 lakh crore directly into the bank accounts of those building their homes. This “beneficiary-led” approach means families take charge of their own construction, ensuring they have a personal stake in their new lives.
What makes this project special is the use of high-tech tools to stop fraud. For the first time, artificial intelligence (AI) and face-scanning technology are being used to verify that every house is real. The system looks at digital photos of walls, roofs, and windows to confirm completion before final payments are made. Advanced security features even check for “eye-blinks” to prove that the person being verified is actually there in person.
Beyond just four walls, these homes are being connected to clean water, electricity, and solar power through other government programs. This teamwork between different departments ensures that a new house isn’t just a building, but a complete home with modern facilities. By combining human effort with smart technology, the country is steadily closing the housing gap for its rural citizens.
