Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset, passed a law imposing the death penalty on West Bank Palestinians convicted of terrorist attacks, in a 62-47 vote. Supported by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, the law allows executions within 90 days and removes appeal rights. Only Palestinians in military courts are affected, while Israeli citizens remain under civilian law. The legislation drew strong condemnation from the European Union, United Nations, and Palestinian authorities, who called it discriminatory and inhumane. Critics warn it violates international law, human rights, and judicial fairness, raising fears of escalating tensions in the occupied territories.
