Slug : COVID Vigilance
HANOI
Health officials in Vietnam’s capital are calling for renewed vigilance as COVID-19 cases show a slight upward trend. Hanoi has recorded 29 infections since the start of the year, according to local reports. While no deaths have been reported, a recent jump from three to 17 cases in a single week has put authorities on guard.
The Hanoi Centre for Disease Control is currently monitoring a variant known as BA.3.2. While the World Health Organization (WHO) warns that this strain shows some ability to escape immune systems in lab tests, local doctors have advised the public not to panic. Additionally, scientists are keeping a close eye on a newly identified variant informally named “Cicada,” which has appeared in small clusters across various regions.
Most people infected with the virus experience mild symptoms, but the elderly and those with health conditions like diabetes or heart disease remain at high risk. To stay safe, the local health department urges residents to wear masks in crowded or enclosed spaces and to disinfect their hands regularly.
The virus spreads through small liquid particles when people cough, sneeze, or even speak. Experts emphasize that being well-informed is the best defense. They recommend staying at least one meter away from others and self-isolating if you feel unwell. By following these simple steps and keeping up with vaccinations, the community can help slow the spread and protect those who are most vulnerable to serious illness.
