Ramanagara
A shocking case of extortion has come to light in Ramanagara, where a group of five women allegedly threatened and cheated a cinema hall owner of nearly ₹25 lakh. The victim, a 52-year-old man living alone, has filed a complaint with the police, prompting an investigation into the incident.
According to police sources, the victim is a resident of the Agrahara block in Ramanagara and has been living alone for the past seven years after separating from his wife. With no immediate family support—no parents or children—he is believed to have been targeted by the accused.
The complaint reveals that the incident began around six to seven months ago when a woman from the Kotipura area visited his cinema hall under the pretext of watching a movie. During her visit, she initiated a conversation with the theatre owner and expressed her desire to marry him. However, the man declined her proposal.
Following this, the woman allegedly returned with two other women, gradually introducing more members into the scheme. Over time, the group of five women reportedly began pressuring the victim for money and valuables. Initially, they demanded smaller amounts, but as the situation escalated, they allegedly extorted larger sums from him.
The victim has stated in his complaint that when he refused to meet their increasing demands, the women threatened to file false cases against him, including charges of rape and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Fearing legal trouble and social stigma, the man reportedly gave in to their demands multiple times.
In addition to the cash extortion amounting to ₹25 lakh, the accused are also alleged to have stolen nearly 500 grams of gold ornaments from the victim.
Police officials have registered a case based on the complaint and launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and motives behind the crime. Authorities are working to trace the accused and gather further evidence.
This incident highlights the growing concerns around targeted extortion and misuse of legal threats, especially against vulnerable individuals living alone.
