Vijayapura
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ananda K. has advised childless couples and single parents to adopt children through authorized Special Adoption Centres to ensure a safe and legal process.
He was speaking after inaugurating a new Government Adoption Centre at the Government Boys’ Home in Takke area of Vijayapura city.
The Deputy Commissioner said that every orphaned child in the 0–6 age group deserves to grow up in a family environment and become a responsible citizen. Eligible parents can adopt children through the Special Adoption Centre as per legal provisions.
He further explained that adoption is governed under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and Adoption Guidelines, 2017, which provide a legal framework for adopting orphaned and surrendered children.
Dr. Ananda K. also emphasized that children in need of care and protection can be admitted to government adoption institutions. He warned that taking custody of a child directly from hospitals, public places, or individuals without following legal procedures is a punishable offense under the law, attracting strict penalties.
District Child Protection Officer Deepakshi S. Janaki, District Programme Officer Nirmala H. Surpur, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee Basamma Hattarki, Superintendent Jayashree Pawar, and staff members were present on the occasion.
