Ashwini Bhide becomes first woman BMC chief

Senior IAS officer Ashwini Bhide has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), becoming the first woman to hold the post. A 1995-batch officer, she is known for her firm and result-oriented work style. Bhide earlier served in the Chief Minister’s Office under Devendra Fadnavis and played a key role in Mumbai’s underground metro projects. With prior experience as Additional Commissioner, she is expected to lead civic works and urban development until 2030.
