Nitish’s resignation as MLC sparks Bihar leadership change speculation

Patna

A major political shift is likely in Bihar after Nitish Kumar resigned from his position as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), triggering strong speculation about a leadership change in the state.

Janata Dal (United) leader Sanjay Gandhi submitted Kumar’s resignation letter to the Bihar Legislative Council secretariat on Monday. Cabinet Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary confirmed the development and hinted that it could signal Kumar stepping down as Chief Minister soon.

The move comes only months after Kumar took oath for a record tenth term as Chief Minister. Earlier this month, he filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha, which had already sparked intense political activity across Bihar.

Kumar secured a seat in the Upper House after receiving support from 44 MLAs during the March 16 elections. Following his victory, there had been growing speculation that he might give up his legislative membership and possibly the chief minister’s post.

Adding to the changing political scene, Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar recently entered active politics by joining the Janata Dal (United) at the party headquarters in Patna. The event was attended by senior leaders including Sanjay Jha and Union Minister Lalan Singh.

Meanwhile, Kumar was accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary while filing his Rajya Sabha nomination, highlighting the importance of the development within the NDA alliance.

The resignation has raised questions about Kumar’s next move and who will lead Bihar in the coming days. Political observers believe further developments are likely soon, as parties closely watch the situation for any major changes in the state’s leadership.
