Marandi seeks CBI probe into Jharkhand liquor scam

Ranchi

Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi on Tuesday met Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and demanded a CBI probe into the alleged liquor scam in the state, which he claimed has crossed ₹750 crore.

In a memorandum, Marandi accused the Anti-Corruption Bureau of failing to conduct a fair investigation and alleged that it was shielding those involved. He said changes in the excise policy in 2022 favoured a select group, leading to major revenue losses.

He further claimed that although arrests were made, the agency failed to file charge sheets within 90 days, allowing several accused to secure bail. Among those arrested were senior officials, including former Excise Secretary Vinay Kumar Chaubey and Joint Excise Commissioner Gajendra Singh.

Marandi alleged that even after several months, no charge sheet has been filed, resulting in most of the accused being released. He termed this delay as either negligence or possible collusion.

He also pointed to a businessman linked to the case who is reportedly absconding. Marandi urged the Governor to intervene, ensure speedy investigation, and recommend a CBI probe to bring those responsible to justice and restore public trust.
