In a joint operation by police and food department officials, a 28-year-old man was arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal collection and resale of LPG cylinders at exorbitant rates.
The accused, identified as Gangamurthy, a resident of Nagalakere Road on Hospet Road, was reportedly involved in collecting domestic LPG cylinders and illegally transferring the gas into commercial cylinders and auto fuel systems. Authorities said the operation was being carried out to make unlawful profits by selling the gas at inflated prices.
Acting on credible information, a joint team comprising police personnel and food department officials conducted a raid at the location. The team was led by Police Inspector Uday Ravi and included staff members Srinivas, Beerappa, Nagareddy, Ramesh Babu, along with Food Inspector Avisha Ambedkar. During the raid, the officials apprehended the accused and uncovered evidence of the illegal activity.
Officials seized a total of eight LPG cylinders, with an estimated value of Rs 25,640. In addition, one auto vehicle fitted with four commercial and four domestic cylinders used for gas transfer was also confiscated. Authorities stated that the misuse of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes is a serious violation of regulations and poses significant safety risks.
Following the operation, a case has been registered against the accused at the Ballari Rural Police Station. Further investigation is underway to determine whether others were involved in the illegal network and to trace the source and distribution of the cylinders.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on such illegal practices, emphasizing that strict action will be taken against individuals found misusing subsidized domestic LPG for commercial gain. They have also urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to fuel or essential commodities.
The incident highlights the need for strict monitoring and enforcement to prevent black marketing and ensure the safe and lawful use of LPG cylinders.
