The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday accused the Himachal Pradesh government and Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta of supporting illegal land deals and real estate activities. Party leaders demanded his immediate removal and called for a Special Investigation Team to probe the matter.
State secretary Sanjay Chauhan said there is a strong link between land mafia and top officials, leading to large-scale violations of land laws. He referred to the Chester Hills case in Solan district, claiming rules were ignored to allow illegal construction and land grabbing.
The party alleged misuse of authority, stating the Chief Secretary passed orders beyond his legal powers. It also raised concerns over violations of Section 118, which restricts land purchase by non-residents, claiming benami transactions are increasing.
Senior leader Kuldeep Singh Tanwar said illegal construction and borewell use have harmed natural resources. He claimed groundwater depletion has affected villages, causing water shortages for farmers and residents. The issue, he said, is not limited to one project but reflects a wider pattern across the state.
Former MLA Rakesh Singha also questioned property deals linked to officials, raising concerns about transparency and possible irregularities. The party warned that such activities are damaging Himachal’s fragile environment and local livelihoods.
CPI(M) demanded strict action, including removal of the Chief Secretary and formation of an independent SIT under a judicial officer. Leaders said no fair probe is possible without this step.
They also warned of statewide protests if the government fails to act, stating they are ready to mobilise people to protect land, water, and natural resources from misuse and illegal exploitation.
