Former England captain Michael Vaughan has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India to include teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in India’s upcoming white-ball tour of England following his explosive start in the Indian Premier League 2026.
The 15-year-old prodigy made headlines with a stunning knock for Rajasthan Royals, smashing 52 off just 17 balls to guide his side to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings. Chasing a modest 128, Rajasthan cruised to victory in just 12.1 overs, with Sooryavanshi’s fearless batting taking centre stage.
Impressed by the youngster’s composure and strokeplay, Vaughan suggested that India should expose him early to the international environment. While acknowledging that immediate selection in the playing XI may not be necessary, he emphasised the value of integrating him into the senior setup.
“Get him on that tour, let him experience the environment,” Vaughan said, adding that exposure to the national team setup could accelerate the youngster’s development. He also questioned eligibility norms for a player of his age but maintained that Sooryavanshi has the talent to compete at the highest level.
The innings has further strengthened the growing buzz around the Bihar-born batter, who has rapidly emerged as one of the most exciting young prospects in Indian cricket. His ability to dominate bowlers with aggressive strokeplay at such a young age has drawn widespread attention.
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif also revised his earlier stance on the youngster. Having previously cautioned against premature hype, Kaif now believes Sooryavanshi is ready for the next step. He praised the teenager’s match-winning ability and entertainment value, noting his maturity despite limited experience.
With India’s white-ball tour of England approaching, discussions around nurturing young talent have intensified. While selectors are likely to proceed cautiously, Sooryavanshi’s performances have undoubtedly put him in contention for future opportunities.
As the IPL season unfolds, all eyes will be on the young star to see if he can maintain his momentum and further strengthen his case for a place in India’s senior squad.
