Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said Assam has witnessed a major transformation after years of instability, crediting the change to the BJP’s double-engine government.

Addressing booth-level workers under the ‘Mera Booth, Sabse Mazboot Samvaad’ programme, he said twelve peace agreements were signed with various organisations in the northeast to ensure lasting peace.

Modi criticised the Indian National Congress, stating that earlier agreements were only made on paper to gain attention, without real impact. He said Assam once suffered from violence and unrest, but the situation has improved significantly in the past decade. According to him, the BJP worked sincerely to implement agreements and provide a stable future for the youth.

He added that previous governments failed to resolve issues related to insurgent groups and even betrayed causes like that of the Bodo community. In contrast, he said the BJP ensured peace through honest governance and consistent action.

The Prime Minister asked party workers to reach out to first-time voters and explain the situation under earlier governments, which he described as misrule. He stressed that voters should understand how important peace is for the state’s growth and overall development. He also cautioned people to stay alert and not believe misleading AI-generated videos being shared during the election period, as they could create confusion among voters. Meanwhile, the Assam Assembly elections for all 126 seats are set to be held on April 9. The BJP-led NDA is aiming to return to power once again and secure a third consecutive term in the state.
