Washington DC
US President Donald Trump warned that Cuba is in serious trouble and may collapse soon. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump called the Caribbean nation a “mess” and said it is a failing country.
Trump emphasized that the United States will support Cuban-Americans who were forced out of the country during Fidel Castro’s rule from 1959 to 2008. “Cuba’s going to be next. It’s a mess. It’s a failing country, and it will fail soon. We will be there to help our Cuban-Americans who suffered under Castro,” he said.
The US President was also asked about a Russian oil tanker heading to Cuba. He said he did not mind other countries sending oil to Cuba, pointing out that the people need basic supplies like heat and cooling. “If Russia or anyone else wants to send oil, it doesn’t bother me. One boatload won’t change much. Cuba’s finished because of bad leadership,” Trump added.
Meanwhile, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel confirmed that talks with the United States are ongoing, with former Cuban President Raul Castro involved in discussions. The negotiations come amid nationwide blackouts caused by a fuel shortage.
According to reports, the Russian tanker is carrying around 730,000 barrels of crude oil and is expected to reach Matanzas by Monday night. The United States Coast Guard has allowed the vessel to continue toward Cuba, potentially easing the island’s worsening energy crisis.
The situation highlights the ongoing tensions between the US and Cuba, while humanitarian needs on the island continue to grow.
