Nutritious Meals Key to Healthy Future, Says Official at Taluk Cooking Contest

T.R. Sulochana, Assistant Director under the Akshara Dasoha programme, made these remarks after inaugurating a taluk-level cooking competition organized for the academic year 2025–26. The event was jointly conducted by the Department of Education and the Taluk Panchayat at the Government Urdu and English Medium Higher Primary School located in Zakir Hussain Mohalla.

Addressing the gathering, T. R. Sulochana stressed that mid-day meals play a vital role in ensuring both the physical growth and cognitive development of schoolchildren. She pointed out that many children rely on these meals as a primary source of daily nutrition, making it essential to maintain high standards in food preparation.

She urged cooking staff to strictly follow hygiene practices, use fresh and quality ingredients, and ensure that meals are well-balanced and nutritious. According to her, cooking for schoolchildren is not just a routine responsibility but a significant service that directly impacts their health, learning ability, and overall development.

Sulochana further stated that such competitions provide an opportunity to recognize the skills and dedication of cooking staff. They also serve as a platform to encourage innovation, improve food quality, and promote healthy cooking practices in schools. She assured that all participants would be appreciated and rewarded for their efforts.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from cooking staff representing various schools across the taluk. Participants showcased their culinary skills by preparing a variety of nutritious dishes, creating a lively and competitive atmosphere.

Several dignitaries attended the programme, including Headmaster Mohammed Sadiq, Akshara Dasoha staff member B.M. Manjunath, cluster resource persons Nazima Begum, Shiva Raghavi Reddy, and Geeta, SDMC President Hidayatullah Khan, APJ Abdul Kalam Welfare Trust Secretary H. Akram Pasha, and teachers Rehan Khanum and Noor-un-Nisa.

The programme concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of nutrition, hygiene, and dedication in ensuring better health and a brighter future for schoolchildren.
