The organisation condemned Shailaja’s brutal murder by her husband near Balurgi, calling it shocking, inhuman, and warning that violence is never a solution to domestic disputes

The district committee of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) has expressed strong outrage over the murder of a young woman near Balurgi in Afzalpur taluk of Kalaburagi district.
Condemning the incident, the organisation termed the murder as a “shocking and inhuman act” that has disturbed society at large. The victim, identified as Shailaja (25), a native of Maharashtra, was allegedly murdered by her husband Akshay. According to reports, the accused had taken Shailaja under the pretext of visiting the Ganagapur temple. However, he allegedly killed her near a roadside close to Balurgi and then ran a car over her body in a brutal manner.
The organisation stated that under no circumstances should individuals take the law into their own hands, and emphasised that violence can never be a solution to domestic disputes. It also expressed deep anguish over the fact that a woman who trusted her husband lost her life in such a tragic manner.
AIDWA leaders said the incident highlights the urgent need to address violence against women and ensure their safety. District President Padmani Kiranagi and Secretary Shanta Saradagi, in a press release, demanded strict action against the accused, justice for the victim’s family, and stronger enforcement of laws to prevent such incidents from recurring.
They also urged the government to take proactive measures to curb crimes against women and create greater awareness to promote respect and equality in society.
