Raphinha injury blow to Barcelona title hopes

Madrid

FC Barcelona’s dreams of a historic double have hit a major roadblock following a serious injury to star winger Raphinha. The Brazilian forward suffered a right hamstring tear while on international duty during a friendly against France, leaving the Catalan giants to navigate a brutal April schedule without their most productive attacking weapon.

The timing could not be worse for manager Hansi Flick. Barcelona currently sits atop La Liga with 73 points after 29 matches, holding a narrow four-point lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid. Raphinha has been the heartbeat of this campaign, delivering an impressive 14 goals and six assists in just 27 appearances. This marks his second hamstring setback of the season, a recurring issue that previously sidelined him for two months.

The club now enters a “make or break” stretch. On April 4, they travel to face a dangerous Atletico Madrid side that recently thrashed them 4-0 in cup play. Just four days later, they host Diego Simeone’s men again for the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. With a local derby against Espanyol and a European return leg following immediately after, the loss of Raphinha’s pace and clinical finishing is a massive psychological and tactical blow.

While goalkeeper Joan Garcia has been in inspired form to keep the title race alive, the pressure now shifts to the rest of the squad to fill the void. Barcelona must find a way to maintain their lead over a surging Real Madrid or risk seeing a dominant season crumble in the final weeks.
