Intro: Modi will lay the foundation stone for 44 urban development projects worth Rs 5,295.54 crore in Gujarat on March 31, with a major focus on infra expansion and civic improvements in Ahmedabad.

According to official details, the projects include 26 initiatives worth Rs 3,427.14 crore for which foundation stones will be laid, along with the inauguration of 18 completed projects valued at Rs 1,868.40 crore. These initiatives aim to strengthen urban infrastructure, enhance housing availability, and improve essential civic services across multiple cities in the state.
Ahmedabad will receive the largest share, accounting for 32 projects with a total investment of Rs 4,640.12 crore. Among the key projects to be inaugurated are the Kharicut Canal Development packages, costing Rs 811.27 crore, which are expected to improve water management and urban drainage. Several housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana will also be inaugurated, providing housing units for economically weaker sections across various localities including Nikol-Kathwada, Chiloda-Naroda, Naroda-Muthiya, Amraiwadi, Gota, Asarwa North, and Hanspura-Naroda.
Other completed projects include the development of a modern sports complex in Vastral, the conversion of the Gota-Godhavi canal into a reinforced concrete box canal, and the establishment of water distribution infrastructure near Akash Darshan Society and Bhadaj. Additionally, a 20 million litre water storage tank at Dudheshwar Water Works has been completed to strengthen water supply systems in the city.
The foundation stone will also be laid for several major upcoming projects in Ahmedabad. These include Phase-2 of the Kharicut Canal project stretching from Ropda Lake to the Khari River, the ITMS System Project 2.0 for BRTS and AMTS to improve public transport efficiency, and the construction of a 14-kilometre road from Narol Circle to Naroda Patiya aimed at easing traffic congestion.
Further housing initiatives include the development of residential units at Kajimiyana Tekra, Bhagubhai ni Chali, Vatva, and Naroda-Hanspura, catering to both economically weaker sections and lower-income groups.
The large-scale investment reflects the government’s continued focus on urban transformation, improved living standards, and sustainable infrastructure development in Gujarat, positioning cities like Ahmedabad as key drivers of economic growth and urban modernization.
