Shops remained closed and fewer people were seen on streets in Murshidabad after violence during a Ram Navami procession. Prohibitory orders were imposed in Raghunathganj and Jangipur following clashes involving stone-pelting, vandalism and arson between two groups. Police said the situation is now normal and under control. Around 30 people have been arrested, though their identities were not disclosed. Personnel from West Bengal Police, Central Armed Police Forces, and RAF were deployed, with route marches conducted to restore public confidence. Markets largely stayed shut except for essential services, while traffic movement remained normal. Security was tightened near Jangipur Hospital and surrounding areas to ensure public convenience. The violence reportedly began near Mackenzie Park after a dispute over loud music during the procession near a place of worship. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm as strict vigil continues.
