The streets of Mumbai transformed into a colorful carnival as over 200 women flagged off for the 2026 WIAA Women’s Car Rally to Valley. Starting at the NSCI, the event blended the thrill of motorsport with a powerful message of empowerment, with cars decorated in themes ranging from cancer awareness to gender equality.

Unlike a typical high-speed race, this 125 km journey to Khopoli follows a “Time-Speed-Distance” format. This means the winners aren’t the fastest, but the most precise. Drivers must maintain a specific pace and follow a strict schedule, making it a true test of teamwork and strategy rather than raw speed. The route takes participants out of the city and into the challenging, winding roads of the hills before finishing at the Novotel Imagicaa.

Nitin Dossa, Chairman of the Western India Automobile Association, led the flag-off alongside officials from JK Tyre. For over a decade, these organizations have used this rally to promote road safety and encourage women to enter the world of motorsports. Organizers noted that the event has evolved into a massive platform for social change, echoing global safety campaigns like #CommitToLife.

The atmosphere at the starting line was electric, with families cheering on participants dressed in themed costumes. Beyond the competition, the rally stands as a 107-year-old tradition of celebrating female resilience. As the engines roared toward the valley, the message was clear: women are taking the driver’s seat in both sports and society.
