Indian runners smash records to reach worlds

Chandigarh

India’s fastest athletes turned the track into a theater of dreams, shattering national records to secure their spots at the upcoming World Athletics Relays. During a high-stakes competition in Chandigarh, the national squads delivered a masterclass in speed and teamwork, proving they are ready to take on the world this May in Botswana.

The highlight of the day came during the mixed 4x100m relay. The talented quartet of Lalu Prasad, Unnathi, Harita, and Jayaram displayed flawless baton exchanges and explosive sprinting. They clocked a stunning 42.30 seconds, not only winning the gold medal but also setting a brand-new national record. Their performance brought the cheering crowd to its feet as they surpassed the previous mark of 43.44 seconds.

It was a golden day across multiple events. In the men’s 4x400m, the India B team displayed incredible grit to edge out their teammates in India A. Both squads finished with times fast enough to qualify for the global stage. Meanwhile, the senior mixed 4x400m team also tasted victory, beating a tough challenge from Sri Lanka.

Chief coach Radhakrishnan Nair had expressed quiet confidence before the race, and his athletes did not disappoint. This surge in relay success shows the deep talent pool growing in India, from senior stars to rising youth players from Tamil Nadu and Chandigarh. With the qualification deadline fast approaching, these runners have sent a loud message: India is no longer just participating; they are coming to compete with the very best.
