Blurb: Iran-aligned Houthi forces in Yemen launched missiles targeting Israel on Saturday, marking their first direct involvement since the ongoing Iran war began, as the conflict continues to widen across the region.

According to Israeli authorities, at least one missile fired from Yemen was successfully intercepted, preventing damage or casualties.
The attack signals a significant escalation in the conflict, which has now entered its fifth week following the initial strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel on February 28.
The growing involvement of regional actors like the Houthis raises fears of a broader and more prolonged war in the Middle East.
The Houthi group declared that its military operations would continue until what it described as aggression against Iran and allied factions ends across all fronts. The group had earlier warned it was prepared to intervene if there was any escalation against Iran and the so-called Axis of Resistance, a network of Iran-backed forces in the region.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington expects to conclude its military operations within weeks. However, the continued involvement of additional actors like the Houthis could complicate those timelines and prolong instability.
The conflict has already had devastating consequences, with thousands reported killed and widespread destruction across multiple regions. It has also triggered the most significant disruption to global energy supplies in recent history, sending shockwaves through international markets and increasing fears of rising inflation worldwide.
The Houthis have previously demonstrated their ability to strike targets far beyond Yemen’s borders. Their operations have disrupted key shipping routes around the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea, particularly during their earlier support for Hamas in Gaza following the October 7, 2023 attacks.
With tensions escalating and more players entering the conflict, analysts warn that the situation risks spiraling into a wider regional war, with far-reaching geopolitical and economic consequences.
