Community members and health officials came together to spread awareness about tuberculosis during a special program held at the Advisomapura Health and Wellness Centre on World Tuberculosis Day.
Health Inspector Siddappa N Lingadala said that tuberculosis was once feared by many people but now it can be cured with proper medicine and timely treatment. He explained that continuous awareness programs by the Health Department have helped reduce fear and encouraged people to seek early testing.
Tuberculosis is caused by bacteria and spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Common symptoms include cough lasting more than two weeks, fever in the evening, chest pain, weight loss and loss of appetite. Officials advised anyone with such signs to visit nearby health centers for free sputum tests and treatment. Treatment usually lasts six to nine months and must be completed without break.
The event was organized with support from district authorities and local health staff. Teacher SG Amminabai presided over the function while staff and community workers participated actively in spreading awareness among villagers. Speakers urged the public to work hand in hand with the government to make Karnataka tuberculosis free and ensure a healthier future for everyone in the region through care, support and awareness drives across all communities. They also thanked volunteers and workers for their efforts and dedication towards public health and safety.
