UAE Signals Support For Force To Reopen Hormuz Strait

United Nations

The United Arab Emirates has expressed willingness to join an international force aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz amid rising regional tensions.

The UAE has informed the United States and Western allies that it is ready to participate in a multinational maritime taskforce. The proposed “Hormuz Security Force” aims to protect shipping routes and counter threats from Iran.

The strategic waterway, which carries nearly 20 per cent of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies, has been severely disrupted due to ongoing conflict. This has led to rising energy prices and concerns over global inflation.

The UAE is also working with Bahrain to push for a resolution at the United Nations Security Council to provide legal backing for such a force. However, opposition from countries like Russia and China could pose challenges.

While some allies remain hesitant to commit military support, France has held discussions with several nations on a possible mission, likely after the ongoing conflict ends.

The Strait of Hormuz remains vital for global trade and energy supply, especially for the UAE, a major oil exporter and regional trade hub.
