Despite repeated advisories and enforcement efforts, officials estimate that nearly 90 percent of private sleeper coaches and air-conditioned buses in the state are still operating without adequate fire safety systems. This alarming figure has raised serious concerns within the department, particularly in light of past fire accidents that have led to fatalities and severe injuries. Transport officials have emphasized that basic safety requirements such as fire extinguishers, emergency exits, fire detection systems, and proper wiring must be installed and maintained in all passenger buses. However, many operators have reportedly ignored these norms, prioritizing cost savings over passenger safety. A senior official from the department stated that strict action will be taken against violators after the March 31 deadline.
