Intro Aakash Chopra predicts IPL 2026 Orange and Purple Caps will remain with Indian stars, highlighting top batsmen and bowlers.
New Delhi
As the cricket world gears up for the IPL 2026 opener, former Indian opener turned commentator Aakash Chopra has placed his bets on an all-Indian lineup for the season’s top honors. With the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the kickoff match, Chopra believes the prestigious Orange and Purple Caps will stay firmly in domestic hands this year.
In his latest analysis, Chopra identified young sensations Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill as the primary contenders for the Orange Cap. Both openers have previously tasted glory in this category and are expected to dominate the run charts again. Chopra also refused to rule out the legendary Virat Kohli, a two-time winner, noting his evergreen hunger for runs. He further suggested that if the Delhi Capitals enjoy a deep playoff run, KL Rahul could emerge as a dark horse for the title.
Chopra placed particular emphasis on Jaiswal’s journey, noting that the youngster has amassed over 1,600 runs in the last three seasons. A haul of 600 to 650 runs this year could be his golden ticket back into India’s white-ball squads.
Turning his attention to the bowlers, Chopra named Mumbai Indians’ spearhead Jasprit Bumrah as the favorite for the Purple Cap, provided he remains injury-free. He also highlighted Kolkata Knight Riders’ mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy as a major threat. As the 2026 season begins, fans are strapped in to see if these Indian superstars can live up to Chopra’s high expectations on the grandest T20 stage.
