Stressing the importance of economic empowerment, MamataGatti said women must strive for financial independence to strengthen both families and society.
She was speaking after inaugurating a Women’s Day programme featuring an exhibition of products made by women entrepreneurs and a felicitation ceremony for achievers. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Women and Child Development, Rotary Club of Mangaluru Central and Global Green Eco Foundation.
Gatti noted that women in the district have long been managing household finances with care and resilience. She said government guarantee schemes, which directly credit money into women’s bank accounts, are helping enhance their economic independence.
Assistant Commissioner of Police NazmaFarooqui, who attended as a guest, said women have made remarkable progress across sectors, but challenges remain in backward regions. She highlighted initiatives such as the “Pink Hoysala” police team and called for collective responsibility in ensuring women’s safety.
Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary JayalakshmiRaykod stressed that empowerment requires equal participation of both men and women.
Several women achievers, including Jyothi K. Ulepadi, DevikaPurushottam and others, were felicitated during the programme. Representatives from Rotary and other organisations were present.
