Cooperative societies play a vital role in strengthening the economic condition of women, said Dr. Neelambika, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies. She emphasized that such institutions provide crucial financial support for women engaged in home-based industries and small businesses. She was speaking after inaugurating the newly registered Kayaka Samruddhi Women’s Cooperative Society at Rampure Colony in the city on Tuesday evening. The event was organized jointly with the Shri Vaishnodevi Cultural and Charitable Trust as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.
Dr. Neelambika advised women members to make effective use of loans obtained from cooperative societies and to ensure timely repayment. “Proper utilization and prompt repayment will help both the members and the societies achieve financial stability,” she noted. Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka State Women’s Cooperative Federation President Shakuntala Beldale said it is encouraging to see women stepping beyond household responsibilities and making their presence felt in various fields. She also highlighted the ongoing efforts to implement 33 percent reservation for women, which would further enhance their participation in different sectors.
Basaveshwara Education College Professor Dr. Veena Jalade stressed the importance of women in shaping family values. She expressed concern over increasing mobile usage affecting family harmony and said that mothers play a crucial role as the first teachers in preserving cultural values.
Directors Dr. Savitribai Hebbale and Dr. Sunita Kudlikar also spoke on the occasion. The programme was presided over by Bharati Sangamesh Biradar, Secretary of the organizing trust.
Newly elected board members of the cooperative society were felicitated during the event. Cultural programmes, including devotional songs by members of Akkamahadevi Women’s Bhajan and Cultural Group, added colour to the function. Several dignitaries, members, and residents attended the programme.
