The political row intensified following a midnight protest led by Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, who accused authorities of obstructing arrangements for Ram Navami celebrations. Adhikari, who is also the BJP candidate from Bhabanipur, is set to face Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a high-profile electoral contest in the constituency.

Reacting to the developments, Paul alleged that the Trinamool Congress has been pursuing policies that are detrimental to Hindu interests. She claimed that for several years, the ruling party has been biased in its approach and has engaged in vote-bank politics. According to her, such strategies have not only affected communal harmony but have also failed to deliver meaningful development to communities.

Paul further accused the state government of politicising religious festivals, stating that permissions are often required for events such as Durga Puja and Ram Navami processions. She alleged that these actions are deliberate and intended to influence specific sections of voters, calling the approach dirty politics.

In addition, the BJP leader criticised the functioning of the West Bengal Police, alleging that senior officials act under political pressure and lack autonomy in decision-making. However, she noted that some junior officers are more responsive and open to change.

Paul asserted that dissatisfaction among the people of West Bengal is growing, with citizens across communities demanding political change. She linked this sentiment to what she described as prolonged governance focused on religious considerations rather than inclusive development.

Meanwhile, Suvendu Adhikari participated in a Ram Navami procession in Bhabanipur on Thursday, further highlighting the political significance of the festival in the state’s current landscape.
