Kotak Mahindra Bank’s Panchkula branch is under scrutiny after a Rs 150-crore fraud was discovered in fixed deposits of the municipal corporation. Trouble surfaced when a Rs 58-crore deposit maturity was requested, but the money never arrived. Investigations revealed fake bank statements and forged deposits. Officials suspect funds were diverted into fraudulent accounts. The bank has started a full review and is cooperating with authorities. This comes shortly after a Rs 590-crore fraud at IDFC First Bank’s Chandigarh branch. Further details of the Panchkula case are expected as the probe continues.
