The Gujarat government has allocated ₹2,902 crore to the Labour, Skill Development and Employment Department in the 2026–27 state budget to strengthen youth skills, improve job opportunities and enhance welfare for workers across the state.
Labour Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya announced the allocation during a press conference at the state Legislative Assembly on Saturday. He said the budget aims to support the vision of “Viksit Gujarat 2047” and contribute to the national goal of “Viksit Bharat 2047” and an Atmanirbhar India.
Under the Namo Gujarat Skill and Employment Mission, ₹226 crore has been allocated to improve youth employability. The PM Setu Scheme has received ₹200 crore to upgrade Industrial Training Institutes through a hub-and-spoke model. Another ₹40 crore has been set aside for the Namo Kaushalya Laxmi Scheme, which encourages female students to join ITI courses. Women trainees will receive ₹15,000 for one-year courses and ₹24,000 for two-year courses.
The government has also expanded labour welfare programmes. ₹200 crore has been allocated under the Shramik Annapurna Yojana to open 300 new booths offering meals to workers for ₹5. The Shramik Basera Yojana has received ₹150 crore to provide affordable housing for construction workers. Additionally, ₹160 crore has been allocated to expand the Dhanvantari Arogya Rath programme by adding 50 mobile health units.
The state will also provide ₹3.5 lakh accident insurance support to construction workers in case of death or permanent disability. The Agariya Housing Scheme has received ₹25 crore to provide houses with solar panels and basic facilities for salt pan workers.
Officials said Gujarat has 559 operational ITIs with 2,18,516 seats and continues to expand skill training and employment initiatives across the state.
