Colony residents seek help over long neglect

Hombalanaka Janata Colony residents criticized poor infrastructure and incomplete Rajakaluve drainage, causing hardships for the locality over six years

Residents of Hombalanaka Janata Colony in Ward 16 have appealed to local leaders and authorities to visit their area and solve the long-pending problems affecting their daily lives. People in the colony say they have been facing serious issues for nearly four decades and now hope for urgent action.

Members of the Hombalanaka Janata Colony Development Service Association said the situation in the locality has become very difficult due to poor infrastructure and lack of basic facilities. According to residents, the Rajakaluve drainage channel in the area has remained incomplete for the past five to six years.

During heavy rain, sewage water from the drain reportedly enters houses, damaging food grains, groceries and household items. Residents said this situation is creating health risks and financial difficulties for many families who are already struggling.

Another major concern raised by the residents is the condition of the roads. They said the roads are so damaged that emergency vehicles cannot reach the colony easily. Recently, a pregnant woman experiencing labour pain had to be carried by family members to the main road to reach medical help because an ambulance could not enter the area.

People also recalled a recent incident when a house caught fire in the colony. Due to poor road access, the fire brigade could not reach the spot quickly. Residents said they had to use buckets of water themselves to control the fire until help arrived.

According to the residents, funds had earlier been allocated for drainage and road development works, but the projects have remained incomplete. They are now urging authorities to inspect the area, speed up the stalled works and ensure proper basic facilities.

Residents say timely action will help improve living conditions and bring relief to hundreds of families in the colony.
