Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday emphasised the need to further strengthen coordination among various security agencies, including the Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura Police, to tighten surveillance along the India-Bangladesh border.

Addressing the Police Week function at the Manoranjan Debbarma Memorial Stadium on the outskirts of Agartala, the Chief Minister underlined that seamless cooperation between the BSF and state police is crucial to ensuring effective security in border villages and preventing cross-border crimes.

Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh and is surrounded on three sides by the neighbouring country, making the state particularly vulnerable to smuggling, illegal infiltration, human trafficking and migration-related challenges.

Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, noted that the state police force has been working with distinction in maintaining law and order. He highlighted their role in curbing criminal activities, intensifying anti-drug operations, preventing road accidents and addressing public safety concerns across the state. Expressing confidence in the force, he said he firmly believes that the Tripura Police will continue its journey of excellence with dedication, integrity and professionalism in the years ahead.

On the occasion of Tripura Police Week 2026, the Chief Minister inspected the ceremonial parade and paid homage to brave police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. He acknowledged their courage and sacrifice while performing responsibilities under challenging circumstances.

The Chief Minister further stated that Tripura has emerged as one of the leading states in the country in maintaining a stable law and order situation. He attributed the improved security scenario to coordinated policing and enhanced infrastructure development within the department. According to him, the state has witnessed an 8.3 per cent reduction in crime rate over the past two decades. He added that police efforts have been intensified to modernise infrastructure, upgrade surveillance systems and strengthen community policing initiatives, contributing to greater public confidence and a significant rise in tourist footfall in recent years.
