District Collector Dr. Kumar has directed officials to conduct strong awareness campaigns in rural areas against child marriage and dowry. Speaking at a district-level review meeting organised by the Women and Child Development Department at the Collector’s office, he said street plays and village programmes must be used to educate people about the Child Marriage and Dowry Prohibition Acts.

He asked teachers to closely monitor attendance of girl students and report unusual absences to prevent early marriages. He also instructed officials to ensure nutritious food is properly supplied in all Anganwadi centres and to personally inspect food quality and basic facilities.

Dr. Kumar said reports of cases registered at the Sakhi One Stop Centre must be reviewed within a week and biometric systems should be installed there. Temporary shelter, medical help, legal aid and counselling must be provided to women facing domestic violence. Out of 565 cases registered this year, 537 have been resolved, and the remaining cases should be settled quickly.

He stressed training for Kavalu Samiti members and awareness among Anganwadi workers to prevent immoral trafficking of women and children. Under Mission Shakti and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao schemes, officials were asked to promote girls’ education and improve the declining sex ratio.

District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Anand A.A. urged officials to counsel victims with care and strengthen village-level awareness efforts.
