Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshipriya has directed officers and staff to carry out census duties with full responsibility, calling it one of the country’s most important national exercises. She spoke at a training workshop for district-level charge officers held at the District Collectorate Hall on Wednesday.
She said census data plays a key role in planning from village level to the national level. Governments depend on these figures to prepare budgets and introduce welfare schemes, including housing and infrastructure projects. Therefore, officers must record clear and accurate information to avoid future confusion.
This will be the eighth census after Independence and the first to be conducted fully in digital mode. A special mobile app has been developed for the process. Enumerators will collect answers to around 30 questions from each household using smartphones. The census will be held in two phases. Self-enumeration will be allowed from April 1 to 15. House listing fieldwork will take place from April 16 to May 16.
The Deputy Commissioner said a pilot digital census was already completed successfully in Joida taluk without major issues. She urged all officials to complete the work within the given time frame.
Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Dileesh Shashi said participation in census work is a rare opportunity and asked officers to guide their teams properly. Joint Director of Census Directorate, Bengaluru, Shakti Kumar stressed that entries must be made carefully, as online corrections will not be possible later.
