Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday unveiled the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments, marking a significant outcome of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held in the national capital.
The landmark initiative brings together leading global frontier AI companies and India’s domestic innovators to promote inclusive, responsible, and scalable artificial intelligence development.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the summit, Vaishnaw outlined India’s artificial intelligence strategy, describing it as firmly rooted in democratisation, scale, and technological sovereignty. He emphasised that India’s AI roadmap spans all five critical layers of the AI stack — applications, models, compute infrastructure, talent, and energy. The Minister highlighted the government’s focus on ensuring real-world deployment of AI solutions across healthcare, agriculture, education, and public service delivery systems.
AI is a foundational technology. It is already transforming how we work, learn, and make decisions, Vaishnaw said. He reiterated that the Prime Minister’s vision centres on ensuring that technological advancements benefit the broader population. According to him, democratising technology and deploying it at scale are central to India’s development strategy.
The newly announced commitments are voluntary and reflect a shared global vision to align AI development with equity, cultural diversity, and real-world needs, particularly for countries across the Global South. The framework seeks to ensure that innovation remains inclusive while addressing emerging risks associated with advanced AI systems.
Vaishnaw stressed the importance of collective global efforts to mitigate risks linked to artificial intelligence. By placing human safety and dignity at the heart of AI, we can move forward with conviction. Let us shape an AI future of the humans, by the humans, and for the humans, he remarked.
The initiative has drawn participation from prominent India-based innovators such as Sarvam, BharatGen, Gnani.ai, and Soket, alongside global frontier AI firms. The collaboration is expected to strengthen India’s position as a key player in shaping the future of responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence worldwide.
