Police have cracked the robbery case reported in Halasangi village under the jurisdiction of Zalaki Police Station in Vijayapura district and arrested two accused persons. Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi shared detailed information about the investigation and recovery.
According to police, the robbery occurred on January 26 at around 3.30 pm at ‘Bhoomika Jewellery’ shop owned by Maharudra Sadashiv Kanchagar in Halasangi village. Two masked individuals, their faces covered with black cloth and wearing helmets, arrived on a black Honda Unicorn motorcycle. The accused allegedly threatened the shop owner at gunpoint and fled with 205 grams of gold ornaments and 1 kilogram of silver ornaments, collectively valued at approximately ₹22 lakh.
While escaping from the scene, the accused reportedly opened fire towards members of the public gathered near the shop, resulting in injuries to bystanders. Based on the complaint lodged by the shop owner, a case was registered at Zalaki Police Station.
Given the gravity of the offence, special investigation teams were formed under the supervision of senior district police officials. Acting on technical surveillance inputs and local intelligence, the police traced and apprehended the accused within 20 days of the incident.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Hanamant Mallappa Waghole (28) and Shivraj @ Gaudappa Rausaheb Navi (28). Both are natives of Maharashtra and were reportedly residing in the Pune region prior to their arrest.
Police recovered the entire stolen property, including 205 grams of gold ornaments and 1 kilogram of silver ornaments worth ₹22 lakh. Additionally, three country-made pistols, 26 live cartridges, one air gun, the Honda Unicorn motorcycle used in the crime, masks, jackets and other incriminating materials were seized from their possession.
Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi stated that the swift resolution of the case demonstrated the efficiency and coordination of the district police force. Officers and staff involved in the investigation have been awarded commendation letters for their prompt and effective work.
Vijayapura’s geographical location near the borders of Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh presents operational challenges for law enforcement. Criminals often exploit interstate boundaries for quick escape, requiring coordinated efforts between different state police departments. Strong highway connectivity and expansive rural terrain can further complicate tracking and apprehension efforts, making swift investigation and inter-state cooperation crucial in such cases.
