Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the Kalaingar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme, asserting that the monthly financial assistance provided to women is not a welfare dole but a rightful entitlement. In an official statement addressed to beneficiaries, he made it clear that no political or administrative hurdle would be allowed to delay or dilute the support.

CM Stalin accused certain quarters of attempting to temporarily suspend payments for three months, citing the upcoming elections. He described the alleged move as an effort to disrupt a flagship social justice initiative that has empowered lakhs of families across the State. Even if anyone tries to create hurdles, we will not step back, he declared, stressing that the Dravidian governance model places people’s welfare above political considerations.

In a proactive measure to ensure continuity, the government credited ₹5,000 each to 1.31 crore women beneficiaries. The amount includes ₹3,000 as advance payment covering February, March, and April, along with an additional ₹2,000 as a special summer assistance package. The funds were transferred directly into bank accounts, safeguarding beneficiaries from potential delays.

Officials noted that the scheme has significantly supported household expenses, children’s education, and healthcare needs, particularly for low- and middle-income families. The programme has become a key pillar of the State’s social welfare framework.

Looking ahead, Stalin unveiled a major electoral promise under the proposed Dravidian Model 2.0. He announced that if re-elected, the monthly entitlement of ₹1,000 would be doubled to ₹2,000. Framing it as a promise to my sisters, he linked the initiative to the legacy of M. Karunanidhi and his vision of inclusive growth.

Expressing confidence in women voters, Stalin declared that their support would secure another victory for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led government. He positioned the scheme as both a social guarantee and a central pillar of the party’s campaign for the upcoming elections.
