Shivam Mishra, son of Uttar Pradesh-based tobacco businessman K.K. Mishra and the prime accused in the Kanpur Lamborghini crash case, was arrested on Thursday morning and produced before a court after undergoing a routine medical examination, police officials said.
Kanpur Nagar Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Kumar Srivastava confirmed the arrest, stating that police teams acted swiftly upon receiving information about Mishra’s whereabouts.
We had received information that he is here. Based on that input, our teams became active and arrested him, and now he has been presented in court, Srivastava told IANS. He added that further legal proceedings would be carried out as per the directions of the court.
According to the DCP, five police teams were constituted to trace and apprehend the accused. Their coordinated efforts led to the arrest on Thursday morning. He further stated that the investigation has clearly established that Shivam Mishra was driving the Lamborghini at the time of the accident.
In the police investigation, it has been made clear that during the accident, Shivam Mishra was driving the car. We have enough proof, and it will be presented before the court, Srivastava said.
The high-profile crash left six people injured. As per initial reports, the speeding Lamborghini first rammed into a rickshaw before colliding with a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle. The impact reportedly flung the motorcycle rider nearly 10 feet into the air. The luxury vehicle then mounted the bike’s front wheel and dragged it for some distance before crashing into an electric pole and coming to a halt.
Eyewitnesses alleged that private security personnel accompanying Mishra attempted to disperse the gathering crowd and escort him away from the scene before law enforcement authorities arrived.
The incident triggered public outrage in Kanpur, with calls for strict action against those responsible. Mishra’s arrest followed dramatic developments on Wednesday, as police intensified their search operations and gathered evidence related to the crash. Officials indicated that additional charges could be invoked depending on further findings and the court’s directives.
