The ideals and philosophies of the Sharanas are crucial for building a value-based and inclusive society, said Sub-Divisional Officer Venkatesh Naik. He was speaking while presiding over the Jayanti celebrations of Kayaka Sharanas at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office auditorium in Chitradurga on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, Venkatesh Naik stressed that the younger generation should not limit itself only to science and technology, but must also understand and adopt India’s rich history and the life path shown by the Sharanas. He noted that the teachings of the 12th-century Sharanas continue to remain relevant even today and align closely with the core values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
The programme marked the Jayanti of eminent Kayaka Sharanas including Madara Chennayya, Madara Dhoolayya, Dohara Kakkayya, Samagara Haralayya, and Urilinga Peddi. The event was organised with the objective of remembering their contributions and spreading awareness about their social reforms, equality-driven ideals, and emphasis on dignity of labour.
Venkatesh Naik explained that the primary intention behind the government celebrating the birth anniversaries of great personalities is to introduce their contributions and philosophies to the present generation. He said that only by imbibing Sharana values such as equality, social justice, and selfless service can a truly value-oriented India be built.
He further underlined that the principle of Kayakave Kailasa should not remain a mere slogan. Instead, it must be reflected in everyday life through honest work, ethical conduct, and commitment to social welfare. While personal growth is important, he said, every citizen also has a responsibility to work for the upliftment of society as a whole.
Emphasising inclusive development, the Sub-Divisional Officer stated that government educational, economic, and social welfare schemes must reach even the last person in society. He assured that if there are any genuine demands or needs from the public, the district administration would make sincere efforts to address them.
